GREEN MOUNTAIN COFFEE ROASTERS TO DISCONTINUE TIMOTHY’S IN US

Today, we at CoffeeIcon.com received word from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters that they will be discontinuing the Timothy’s line of Keurig K-Cup Portion Packs in the United States. The reason given was that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters felt that they would better be able to meet with production demands in the future.

We at CoffeeIcon.com are not happy to see this popular product line be discontinued, and understand that many of our loyal customers love the Timothy’s line and are going to be sad to see it go. Keep in mind that we at CoffeeIcon.com will try to stock up with as many Timothy’s that we can get our hands on while supply is still available to us. We suggest that you do the same while you still can.

The below image shows what Green Mountain Coffee Roasters recommends as a replacement to the discontinued Timothy’s items.

GREEN MOUNTAIN ANNOUNCES ANOTHER PRICE INCREASE

Our reputation at CoffeeIcon.com as the "gimmick-free" K-Cup Portion Pack provider has been built on giving all of our customers the best possible price all of the time. No coupons, no sales, no codes to remember, just low priced coffee, fast shipping and great customer service. We at CoffeeIcon.com are always up front with our customers about our pricing. So when there is an increase in price, you will know that it is because of a change in cost due to the second largest traded commodity known as coffee (second to oil).
We recently received a letter from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR). They announced that the price of K-Cup will once again be going up. The reason is the same as the last few price increases; "increases in prices of other raw materials, and higher energy and transportation costs". Because we are a lowest price providor of the famous Keurig K-Cup Portion Pack, we will have no choice but to raise our prices. As far as how much they will be raised, we are evaluating the increase that we received.

GMCR increased our pricing as of today, so our price increase will be very soon. Get your order today to get in at the lowest prices now.

Thank you for your continued trust and business. We will continue to work hard to keep our prices as low as possible. Always

COFFEE MAY RISE 40% ON FROST AFTER KRAFT, SMUCKER RAISED PRICES

Story from Bloomberg.com :

Coffee Growing Regions Of The World
Brazil, the world’s biggest coffee grower, is facing the risk of frost after hail this month, raising the prospect of a 40 percent jump in bean costs after Kraft Foods Inc. and J.M. Smucker Co. already increased prices.

The chance of frost in Brazil increased with the weakening of La Nina, a cooling of waters in the Pacific Ocean, Brazil’s Somar Meteorologia said this week. Frost in 1994 damaged 35 percent of the crop by 1997, sending prices up 39 percent that year, according to Somar. Should cold weather damage trees this year, coffee may rise to a record $4.20 a pound, the median in a Bloomberg survey of 11 analysts, traders and investors.

Arabica beans have already jumped 24 percent this year on signs demand is outpacing supply. The shortage will be 6.2 million bags in the crop year starting in October, according to Rabobank International. Kraft, maker of Maxwell House coffee, raised prices three times last year. It estimated in February that North American commodity costs would increase $700 million to $800 million this year, or about 1.5 percent of 2010 revenue.

“There is no room for disruption,” said Rodrigo Costa, vice-president of institutional sales at Newedge USA LLC in New York, who correctly forecast a year ago that coffee would climb. “If Brazil has a frost, not only will we see uncharted prices but the situation might become unbearable.”

Arabica coffee for July delivery closed yesterday at $2.992 a pound in New York, after surging to a 14-year high of $3.034, and have more than doubled in the past year. Cocoa futures in New York are up 2.7 percent for the same period and raw sugar is 51 percent higher.

Folgers Coffee

Kraft, based in Northfield, Illinois, increased U.S. prices on Maxwell House and Yuban ground coffees by about 22 percent on March 16, spokeswoman Bridget MacConnell said. Orrville, Ohio- based Smucker, maker of Folgers coffee, raised them by 10 percent in February, Vincent Byrd, director and president of U.S. retail coffee, said on a conference call that month.

Global food costs tracked by the United Nations reached an all-time high in February and the World Bank says that contributed to 44 million more people being driven into poverty in the past year. Inflation is accelerating worldwide, spurring central banks from China to the euro region to increase interest rates, potentially curbing consumer spending.

Arabica coffee, preferred by coffee shops such as Starbucks Corp., climbed as rains associated with La Nina damaged crops in Colombia, the fourth largest producer last year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Brazil’s crop will be 13 percent smaller than last year, Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry estimates.

Colder Atmosphere

La Nina is now declining and all climate models suggest further weakening, Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology said on April 27.

“As La Nina fades and the atmosphere becomes colder, the cold masses from the South Pole gain intensity and may reach the Center South region” of Brazil, Marco Antonio dos Santos, an agronomist at Somar in Sao Paulo, said on April 27. The Center South includes the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil’s biggest grower of arabica beans.

Cold weather from the South Pole is due in the Center South in the week of May 9 and temperatures are forecast to fall to about 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit), Santos said. Coffee trees can be damaged if temperatures fall below 1 degree Celsius, he said.

Frost in Brazilian growing regions can damage trees bearing the following year’s crop. Coffee futures soared to a record $3.375 a pound in 1977 after damage from the “black frost” in Brazil two years earlier, according to Bloomberg data.

“Even without weather disruptions there will be a deficit,” Newedge’s Costa said.

April Hail

There was hail this month in some Brazil growing regions, and the damage was estimated at 50,000 to 60,000 bags, according to Somar. Brazil produced 55.5 million bags last year, according to the USDA. This year’s crop is estimated at between 41.9 million bags to 44.7 million bags by Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry.

“The wild card will be the weather in Brazil,” said Walter “Bucky” Hellwig, who helps oversee $17 billion at BB&T Wealth Management in Birmingham, Alabama and correctly forecast higher gold and oil prices in February. “If Brazil does not have a big crop we will see pressure on prices.”

The earliest frost to damage the crop in Brazil was May 31, 1979, according to Newedge estimates. Brazil’s winter season traditionally extends through August. While Brazilian coffee isn’t deliverable against futures contracts in New York, it’s used in blends by roasters.

Falling Inventories

Stockpiles in producing countries have been falling since 2003, when inventories were at 52.7 million bags, data from the London-based International Coffee Organization show. The 13 million bags in storage now represent 1 1/2 months of global exports, the lowest in at least half a century, according to Jose Sette, the ICO’s executive director.

Inventories in producing nations are 69 percent lower than in 1997 and 71 percent lower than in 1977, years in which coffee prices climbed following frost damage, according to ICO data. Stockpiles were 42 million bags in 1997 and 45 million bags in 1977, Sette said.

“Given what frosts have done to prices in the past, coupled with the tight inventories of arabica, the upside potential if there is a frost is extreme, and records are very likely to be broken,” Keith Flury, an analyst at Rabobank in London said.

COFFEE BEAN PRICES HIGHEST IN 3 DECADES

Story from the Chicago Tribune : 6:00 a.m. CDT, April 27, 2011

Consumers got a jolt this week with news that the price of coffee was hovering near $3 a pound, the highest price in more than three decades, forcing many coffee houses to consider raising prices or cutting services.

Bad weather in the world's top coffee growing regions, a weak dollar and pressure from emerging coffee drinking markets is putting pressure on the industry, which saw coffee beans trading Tuesday at about $3 a pound -- just below its peak of $3.22 a pound on Friday.

The last time coffee prices were higher was in 1977 after bad weather in Brazil, one of the world's leading coffee producers, destroyed more than half of the country's coffee crops.

“We've been hit hard for close to year now,“ said Martin Dietrich, owner of Kean Coffee houses in Southern California. “I can't always ask what I need to because I get push back from my guests, from my customers. So I have to take a margin hit.“

The issue of rising coffee prices was expected to take center stage Thursday when many of the nation's coffee retailers and distributors gather at the Specialty Coffee Association of America's annual symposium in Houston, Texas.

The price of coffee beans represent about 15 percent of the actual cost of a cup of coffee at most small coffee houses, with food, labor and operating costs making up the remainder, said Ross Colbert, the global strategist for beverages at New York-based financial services provider Rabobank.

That percentage, though, is significant enough to have forced small coffee shop owners to have hiked prices two or three times over the past year, Colbert said.

Big-time coffee companies, such as Starbucks as well as corporations behind Folgers and Maxwell House, also hiked prices over the past year to keep up with the rising cost of beans.

Dietrich, considered one of the pioneers of the coffee house culture, has tried to keep his cup prices stable. But he has been forced in recent months to pass on the increased costs of his roasted specialty beans to his customers.

“I'm paying upwards of six or seven dollars for my premium east African coffees,“ said Dietrich, who founded Dietrich Coffee. The coffee company was later sold to Starbucks, which shuttered the stores.

The vast majority of coffee consumed in the U.S. is imported. Hawaii is the only coffee-producing state and cannot supply enough to meet the nation's needs.

The economic boom in Brazil has played particular havoc on the coffee industry with the country becoming more of an economic player on the world's stage.

“The fundamental thing that is going on is that Brazil is dramatically more prosperous. Their currency is going up, their wages are going up and they are the world's largest producer of coffee,“ said Richard Carlson, chairman of the Tucson, Arizona-based Spectrum Economics.

Carlson said Brazil's economy isn't showing any signs of slowing down. That, in turn, will likely keep coffee prices up, he said.

The coffee industry also took another hit with bad weather in Colombia, the world's second-largest coffee producing country, Colbert said.

Increased coffee consumption in China, Brazil and India has also put a strain on existing coffee supplies, Colbert said.

Though Colbert said demand for coffee would diminish somewhat at the conclusion of the coffee growing season in May, neither he, Carlson or Dietrich expected prices to significantly drop because of the length of time it takes for a coffee crop to mature.

“It's going to be another year or two before some of the production catches up with the market,“ Dietrich said

FAIR TRADE ORGANIC TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED

Fair Trade Certified
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) is currently experiencing constraints around the availability of "green" beans in Fair Trade Organic (FTO), Fair Trade Colombian, FTO Decaf and Colombian Decaf coffees.
They are temporarily discontinuing the products being affected by this green bean shortage.

Why aren’t all product sizes/types of the same variety affected in the same way?
GMCR is trying to make these products available as much as possible. The decision on which products to limit in which channels is driven by the availability of alternative products and the potential long-term impact that temporarily losing distribution in a particular channel may have.

Are these products being discontinued permanently?
No they are not. As soon as they replenish the supply of green coffee, they will return them to full distribution.

What is the cause?
There a number of causes, but the key issues are an increased demand vs. forecast, drops in agricultural output in several key coffee growing regions, and limited availability of high quality double certified coffee.

USDA Organic
What will happen to these products long term?
They will return to full availability once they are able to secure enough Fair Trade and/or Organic coffee to produce them reliably.

When will they be available again?
Right now the plan is to be able to regain full production sometime in mid-May 2011. We at CoffeeIcon.com will provide updates if anything changes.

Is this an industry-wide supply issue or just a situation within GMCR?
Fair Trade and/or Organic Certified coffee supplies are limited on a global scale. They represent some of the finest coffees in the world and as more consumers gravitate towards high quality specialty coffee as well as certified coffee, supply has gotten tighter. The situation is amplified with GMCR because of our high level of certified coffees and our recent growth rates.

Coffee Climbs to the Highest Price Since 1997 on Supply Concern

We at CoffeeIcon.com thought that this was interesting, and wanted to share it with our customers. It's a blog from Bloomburg.com. You can read it here, or click here to go to their blog.

Coffee rose to the highest price since 1997 in New York and reached a 28-month high in London on signs that supplies will fail to keep up with demand.

Stockpiles monitored by the New York Board of Trade fell to 1.64 million bags for Jan. 27, the exchange said the next day. Colombia’s National Federation of Coffee Growers said Jan. 21 the harvest in Antioquia, the largest producing region, may drop below last year’s levels after excess rains. Exports from Vietnam may fall this month, statistics showed on Jan. 27.

“The market expects a reduced mid-crop in Colombia due to rain in 2010, and now rainstorms in Brazil that may impact production are being focused on,” said Keith Flury, an analyst with Rabobank in London. “With outlook tight, any potential reduction in the harvest is likely to result in notable price movements, and the increases in the last couple of sessions reflect this.”

Arabica coffee for March delivery advanced 5.35 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $2.5035 a pound at 8:24 a.m. on ICE Futures U.S. in New York after reaching $2.5075, the highest level since June 1997. Robusta coffee for March delivery climbed $58, or 2.7 percent, to $2,187 a metric ton on NYSE Liffe in London after touching $2,204, the highest price since Sept. 25, 2008.

Colombia, the second-largest grower of arabica beans, produced 8.9 million bags of coffee in 2010, down from the 12 million bags initially forecast, Eugen Weinberg, an analyst at Commerzbank AG, said in a report today.

Coffee Demand

“The high humidity and fungal disease also cast their shadow on the crop expected in 2011,” he said.

At the same time, unfavorable weather conditions have affected output in Vietnam, the world’s biggest grower of the robusta variety.

“Given the continued robust demand trend in the emerging countries especially and the already sharp fall in inventories, everything suggests that coffee will sustain a high price level in the longer term too,” Weinberg said.

Raw sugar for March delivery fell 0.43 cent, or 1.3 percent, to 33.51 cents a pound in New York. White, or refined, sugar for March delivery dropped $7.70, or 0.9 percent, to $806.70 a ton on NYSE Liffe.

“Optimistic forecasts for the ongoing sugar harvest in India are increasingly confirmed by actual data,” Commerzbank’s Weinberg said. By mid-January, production was up 15 percent from a year earlier at 8.4 million tons, according to the bank.

Stockpiles in Egypt

India released 1.62 million tons of sugar for open-market sale in February, the food ministry said today. The country is the world’s second-largest sugar producer after Brazil.

Egypt’s public companies have enough sugar stockpiles for three months, Ramadan Suleiman, a purchasing manager at state- owned Sugar and Integrated Industries Co., said by phone today. The country may tender to buy sugar in the second half of February, he said. As many as 150 people have died in Egypt in a week-long uprising against President Hosni Mubarak.

Indonesian state plantation firm PT Perkebunan Nusantara X failed to buy 90,000 tons of white sugar in a tender today, and Perkebunan Nusantara XI failed to buy 23,700 tons of the sweetener.

Cocoa for March delivery added 0.7 percent to $3,301 a ton on ICE. Cocoa for March delivery gained 0.3 percent to 2,170 pounds ($3,453) a ton on NYSE Liffe. Prices climbed last week for a third week in both markets on concern that political unrest in Ivory Coast, the world’s biggest producer, may crimp supply.

Declines are in store as soon as tensions ease in the West African nation, according to Commerzbank. Incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo refuses to stand down in favor of Alassane Ouattara, who is internationally recognized as the winner of an election in November.

“We still expect prices to fall to $2,800 a ton by year end,” the bank said.

Hedge funds and money managers almost doubled their net- long positions, or bets on rising prices, in the week ended Jan. 25 to 15,366 futures and options contracts, U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission data showed on Jan. 28. That was the highest level since early August.

IS THERE REASON WHY YOU ARE SO OUT OF MANY K-CUPS?

CoffeeIcon.com is a high volume mover of everything Keurig and our popularity has grown significantly over the past few years. We obtain our products directly from each of the manufacturers of every Keurig K-Cup. Due to the extreme popularity of the Keurig Single Cup Brewing System, the production of all Keurig K-Cups is being overloaded this winter. We ourselves are being backordered these items. All of the producers are doing what they can to fulfill these shipments to us at the moment, and are constantly ramping up to have the ability to keep up with current and future demand. We just don’t have any control over this situation.

If you have a question as to when a particular item will be in stock, please don’t hesitate to contact or call us. Cs@CoffeeIcon.com, Live Chat at CoffeeIcon.com, or call toll free 800-795-1201.

GMCR PRICE INCREASE ON KEURIG K-CUPS

We received the official notice that our prices will be increasing on Keurig K-Cups.
Here is the letter that we received on Thursday the 20th.

“January 14 2011
Dear Valued Customer:

Effective Monday, January 24, 2011, our wholesale list price on 22/24 count sleeve product cases of K-Cup® portion packs will be increased. This action is in response to several factors affecting the coffee industry, including a sustained increase in the price of green coffee, increases in prices of other raw materials and higher energy and transportation costs.

GMCR reserves the right to limit order quantities based on historical shipments. Please do not hesitate to contact your Sales Representative if you have questions.
Sincerely, Jim T VP of Sales, GMCR Specialty Coffee Business Unit”
We at CoffeeIcon.com will continue to keep our prices at the lowest possible point, while providing fast and dependable customer service at the same time. After talking with our GMCR Representative we will have no choice to raise the current price of $11.29 per 24 count box to $11.99. We have decided to hold off on the price increase until the 1st of the month.

Even with the new increase we will still be priced less than any retailer or website. Keurig.com went up to $15.45 back in November and with this next round of increases, CoffeeIcon.com will still be under $12.00. The Keurig K-cup is still and will remain a great value!

Coffee Prices (Green market prices) in general are at the highest it has been in about 20 years. We at CoffeeIcon.com have been in the coffee business for over 20 years, and we have seen this before. In the past when prices have gone up like this, it went back down, so we expect this to do the same in time.

GMCR is the owner of the majority of K-Cup producers, so this price increase will affect all K-Cup prices.

Another Price Increase From Green Mountain Coffee Roasters

We recently learned that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (now the owners of all K-Cup producers) are issuing yet another small price increase. We have yet to receive the official short notice, but we hear that our purchase price will be affected as of Monday. We will be posting it Facebook as well as our Blog site just as soon as we get the official notice.

What happened is this; you buy a product from an Amazon.com store. He takes your credit card funds and basically keeps them for himself. Then he goes to an outside website, such as CoffeeIcon.com or other, and uses a stolen credit card to purchase the item for you and has it shipped to your address.

So basically your item merchandise is involved in a credit card scam. You are not aware of this happening because you received your item that you bought. The owner of the stolen credit card does not know this is going on until they open their credit card statements and see the charge.

We have reported this to Amazon.com. They are doing very little so we need your help to help stop these criminals from scamming other people and to make the public aware that Amazon does NOT verify nor stand behind their resellers under their name.

If you buy from Amazon.com, or Ebay for that matter, you need to make sure that the individual owner of that store under Amazon has a history of transactions and customer feedback under his name. If he is a brand new reseller, then beware!!

CONCERNING THE RECENT KEURIG K-CUP PRICE INCREASE

We at CoffeeIcon.com attempt to keep our customers informed of every aspect when it comes to the products that we provide. We are constantly posting information about our industry on our information and social portals (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and here on Blogger).
Understandably, most of us don’t keep up with every day changes when it comes to minute changes in how the dairy industry is doing until we notice a spike in the price of a gallon of milk in the grocery store, so we expected some backlash when some of our happiest customers started lashing back about the recent price increase on their beloved K-Cups.

We at CoffeeIcon.com are adamant in making sure that this frustration does not come on us. CoffeeIcon.com is not about baiting and switching customers. Our customers are our business, and CoffeeIcon.com is all about integrity and serving the customer a great product at the lowest possible price without all of the gimmicks.

Here are some details about the recent “Global Price Increase” that you need to know.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters ended up spending millions buying up ALL of the K-Cup producers. On top of that the price of all “Green Coffee” (Coffee is the second highest traded commodity worldwide second only to oil) went up. All of these price increases were passed on to the distributor's who in turn have no choice but to raise their prices. (More about the GMCR price increase) We at CoffeeIcon.com always keep our prices as low as possible. We had no choice to recently go up.

When it comes to Bed Bath & Beyond and other retail stores, Green Mountain Coffee gave the “Retail stores” a stay on their price increase until January 1st of 2011, but there’s will soon follow.. It was a bit of a kick in the gut to us Internet KADS (Keurig Authorized Dealer). Just keep in mind that they do not have the 24 count boxes at retail stores. They sell the 12, 16 and 18 count boxes vs. our 24 count boxes (and at a higher price too). They also only have 30 flavors of K-Cups vs. our 200 varieties of K-Cups, so it always pays to buy your K-Cups online.

Again, we had no choice but to raise our prices. This increase came at the beginning of the month of October. Because our stock rotates so quickly, we were one of the first to raise the price. Every day we are seeing others do the same, and CoffeeIcon.com is still at a lower price.  (More about CoffeeIcon.com Compaired to Keurig.com & GreenMountainCoffee.com) If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here for our customers, and are proud to be the only Keurig Authorized Dealer online to offer everyday low prices to all of our customers without the gimmicks.

Price for 24 Keurig K-Cup Count  of Regular Coffee (11/01/2010)
CoffeeIcon.com was at $9.99 at one point for our Keurig K-Cups, but were forced to go up on our prices to $11.29. We had no choice but to do this. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters ended up spending millions buying up all the K-Cup producers. On top of that the price of all "...Green Coffee" went up.

All of these price increases were passed on to the distributers (Keurig Authorized Dealers) who in turn had no choice but to raise their prices. We at CoffeeIcon.com always keep our prices as low as possible and our sale approach "gimmic Free". We had no choice to recently go up. This increase came at the beginning of October. Because our stock rotates so quickly, we were one of the first to raise the price. Every day we saw the others do the same, and we are still at a lower price.

Today (Nov 1st, 2010), all online K-Cup stores are now at higher prices. They have jumped to the $15+ mark. Again, CoffeeIcon.com is at $11.29

We did start sending out notifications about the price increase two months ago so that we could inform as many people about it as we could. We hate to see the prices increase. There was just no way that we could absorb the price increase.
